A Vacation Sonnet (2009)
by David Read
Greet we the morn, gray clouds we trust will fade;
We wake with smiles, the journey now to come.
Some toys and snacks and books in car are laid;
Adieu to dog, his treats we leave him some.
Go east then north, so well we know this route;
Each state we count, first four, then three, now two.
A break to stretch, cold drink a snack or fruit;
At last in Maine, the sea is here so blue.
Along the rocky shore we slowly drive;
Familiar fragrance, see the vista wide.
Our home this week to which we now arrive;
Now time is ours, we flow within the tide.
Clear sky arrives; we greet a sunny day;
We swim, then bowl, and catch a U V ray!
